Jared had always been dubious about religion. He believed that there was a God, but he wasn't like the others he had grown up with who followed the Lord's words to the letter, who kicked people out of the church for being different, growing up with this kind of idea that they were somehow superior to the rest of the world.
His mom had always told him that everyone was equal no matter what, whether they were coloured or female, disabled or a genius, gay, transexual or whatever. She had always told him that the real message that God wanted was for everyone to accept each other, after all, the world would be a damn boring place if everyone was the same.
That was why he had been so happy to tell his parents about himself and Jensen, they understood and they were happy, they had loved Sandy, true enough, but they could see how happy Jared was, how much he loved his partner and that? Well, that was good enough for them. "That kind of love is blessed, JT," she had said, hugging him and leaning up to kiss his temple. "God's lookin' down on you two and smilin'. Ain't nothin' wrong with it."
But Jensen? Jensen had grown up differently, parents much more strictly religious and Jared found it hard to understand, at the beginning it had been hard to accept too, that Jensen's parents wouldn't just open them both with open arms like his had done. He didn't understand why a God would want people to persecute others for being in love.
Hell, make it wider, Jared didn't understand why people were told they had to be a certain way, had to get married and have children, had to go to church every sunday and donate however much of their wages to the poor (not that he was against charities, but he had always had a feeling churches were corrupt anyway) and he just wanted to know why more people couldn't be like his momma, and himself, and just accept people.
Surely that was what all religions fundamentally were teaching? They all had the same message at their very cores, it was just the way it was taught was different, and it had gotten confused over the years. He was sure that if it was ever cleared up, the world would be a better place.
Then again, everyone had always accused Jared of being a dreamer.

I said I'm not a guy who keeps secrets, and that's true. I mean, ask anyone. I'm the kinda guy that wears my heart on my sleeve for whoever, an interviewer, a fan or a lover. It's not that they're all the same... that's just who I am. But then again there's something I did way back at the start of filming Supernatural that I've never forgiven myself for, even thinking about it makes me feel kinda ill.
